Back in February, we got involved with Stephen Brown’s Computers for Schools fundraising initiative. To help to provide much needed computer equipment to schools. Harrisons Homes purchase a laptop under the scheme and donated it to Fulston Manor school in Sittingbourne.

We have been following Stephen’s progress.  With the support of Agents Giving he has pulled agents together across the UK to support the scheme.  As of the time of writing this blog. The scheme has raised over £85,000 and donated 741 laptops/tablets and 12 dongles to schools nationwide.

What is even more remarkable, is that Stephen’s wife Sam, sadly passed away from a terminal illness whilst Stephen was fundraising for schools.  Stephen is now fundraising in Sam’s memory, and hopes to raise £200,000 to help provide learning opportunities to many more disadvantaged children nationwide.

We wanted to get involved. This time around we would focus on supporting primary aged children across Swale.

Usually agents pledge to donate on each completed sale (similar to our ongoing donations to Holding On Letting Go).  After 20 completed house sales, agents are gifted a laptop. For the agent to then donate to a school of their choice.  Or, after 5 completed sales agents are given a tablet to donate.

But there’s more…

That’s not all though. Our friends and supporters over at Shore Way Marketing have pledged to match our donations to this scheme.  So now we will be giving a laptop to a local school after every 10 completions or a tablet after 3.

There will be many different ways that the community can nominate their school for a laptop or tablet, follow our facebook or Instagram accounts to find out more.

Some exciting news, we have been shortlisted for an Agents Giving award in the category “Best Company Fundraising”
We are absolutely delighted to have made it this far. There are some fantastic agents that have also been shortlisted. We are really proud to have raised an incredible £11,450, to date, for Holding On Letting Go. A figure that continues to rise each month as we donate £50 from every sale that completes.
We have pledged to continue our support for them as the demand for their services has increased significantly over the past 18 months.
This wasn’t due to increased death rates within the population. It was due to the way that we were having to deal with death during a pandemic. Much of the grieving process has been restricted, from having a chance to say a final goodbye, to attending the funeral.
The support network that we usually access during loss isn’t available in the same way and this in turn has meant that children and many of their families have needed more support than ever.

Other Charity work

However, this isn’t all we have done for charity in the past 18 months, we have also:
Chris Ellis – Harrisons Managing Director, explains why an Agents Giving award is so special

“To me it’s giving something back. Our industry is known for a lot of negativity, however I/we are driven to making a difference in people’s lives and that’s not just selling their house. Since Covid, there’s been a lot of businesses and charities that have struggled and we wanted to do our bit to help where needed.  So we are not just taking, we are giving back. Holding On Letting Go was where it started. No child should have to go through dealing with loss, and if our contribution makes just a small difference to their lives, it’s worth every penny”

The winner will be announced at a charity ball hosted by Phil Spenser on 24th September.

every ,”Harrisons Estate Agent Raise £10,000 for Charity”

To celebrate raising an amazing £10k for Holding On Letting Go.  On Saturday,  teamed up with staff and volunteers from the charity. Pitching a pop up stall in Sittingbourne High Street.

We had a wonderful day.  It was fantastic for our staff to meet the team from Holding On Letting Go.  Shoppers and members of the public joined in with our raffle and tombola and hopefully learned something about this very important local charity too.

Raising a glass to toast this achievement.  Harrisons have pledged to continue the support for the children’s charity. By committing to more fundraising in future and a pledge to bring the total raised to £20k.  We are hoping to achieve the figure by this time next year!

Fund raising initiatives organised by Harrisons included donating £50 for every house sale; holding raffles, and a team member participating in a sponsored bike ride. Harrisons worked with other local businesses to donate Christmas presents to the children supported by Holding On Letting Go.

All the staff at Harrisons have got behind the fundraising initiative which has only been running for 12 months.  It has already raised enough money for the charity to support 30 children. Who are struggling with the loss of someone they love.  In the UK, a child is bereaved of a parent every 22 minutes. With more being bereaved of a sibling, other family member, or friends. The services offered by Holding On Letting Go are invaluable to many children throughout Kent.

Supporting Kent charities during the current pandemic is something we were very keen to do.  Following the first lockdown we ran a raffle to support a local children’s bereavement charity that we had heard were doing some incredible work in our area. They were facing an uncertain future due to the pandemic limiting how they were able to fundraise. When restrictions were lifted in June. We resolved support them further and pledged to donate £50 from every sale we completed on.
Ten months later, we have raised almost £10,000! If you would like to find out more about the work that Holding On Letting Go do.  Supporting children and families through some of the hardest and most difficult times of their lives please visit their website www.holdingonlettinggo.org.uk.  Supporting Kent charities during this time is so important.  Helping in any way you can to which ever charity you wish to support is important.  There are so many worthy charities in Kent and beyond.  However, we believe the work that Holding On Letting Go is especially important and poignant currently.
